Sara Doell, who guided Seton Hall to three BIG EAST championships during her seven seasons as the Pirates head coach, has been named head women's golf coach at the University of San Francisco.
Â
Doell succeeds Sarah Glynn, who relocated with her family to the Sacramento area after seven years as the Dons' head coach.
Â
"Sara's great results at Seton Hall clearly stood out in the process of hiring a new coach to lead our women's golf program," said USF Director or Athletics
Scott Sidwell. "We feel fortunate to have been able to hire someone with her credentials and history of winning at the highest level. Sara will make an immediate impact as we look forward to continuing to elevate our women's golf program on the national level."
Â
"I am honored to have the opportunity to lead USF's women's golf program," said Doell. "When I visited campus the sense of community and family was undeniable. The holistic approach to the student-athlete concept at USF aligns with my values and vision for what the student-athlete experience should can and should be. I am grateful to
Scott Sidwell and
Doug Padron and the rest of the department for the warm welcome I have already received and I am excited about the future of our program."
Â
Doell, who was the first head coach in Seton Hall history after the program was launched in 2010, led the Pirates to three consecutive BIG EAST titles and subsequent NCAA Regional appearances in 2014, '15 and '16. She is a three-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year and in 2015 was named the LPGA's National Coach of the Year.
Â
Four years following the program's inception, Doell led Seton Hall to its first BIG EAST Championship in 2014 as the Pirates claimed the conference title with a seven-stroke victory to earn the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Regionals.
Â
The Pirates claimed a total of 11 team titles during her seven-year stay in South Orange. Doell also mentored five individual champions, 11 BIG EAST All-Conference selections and 13 Academic All-Scholar Athletes.
Â
Doell came to Seton Hall after spending four and half years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Penn State. She also spent more than four years as an assistant golf professional at Ballantyne Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was the professional liaison for the women's golf league and lead instructor of the junior golf program.
Â
As a player at Penn State from 1996-2000, Doell had numerous top-10 finishes and served as the Nittany Lions team captain as a senior. She also won the Women's Golf Academic and Athletic Achievement Award, the Mary Kennedy Zierke Award and the Penn State Spiritus Lionus Academic Achievement Award. Doell won the 1998 New York State Amateur Championship and won a pair of Women's Rochester District Amateur titles in 1997 and 2000.
Â
Doell, a native of Rochester, NY, attended Gates-Chili High School and was inducted into its athletic hall of fame in September of 2016. She graduated from Penn State in 2000 with a degree in media studies. She is also a Class A Teaching Member of the LPGA.
