Facing the Pilots: USF holds the career advantage over the Pilots, boasting a 58-29 record overall and a 54-23 record in WCC play. Last year the Dons took the season series against the Pilots, winning two of the three games played between the two teams. USF shutout the Pilots in the first game, 4-0, with
Grant Goodman throwing seven shutout innings before
Scott Parker and
Brendan Jenkins came in relief. In the second game the Dons put up 12 runs in the second game to beat Portland 12-2.
Michael Perri homered in the second game, while
Ross Puskarich and
Brady Bate drove in runs for USF as well.
The weekend trio: Thomas Ponticelli,
Riley Ornido and
Landen Bourassa boast a combined record of 10-1. Both Ponticelli and Ornido hold a spotless record of 3-0 and 4-0, respectively. In the last series against Pacific, the trio allowed just four earned runs in 20 and 2/3 innings.
Conference record: With their sweep of Pacific this past weekend, USF has a perfect record in the WCC. The Dons will look to keep that perfect record going while improving on their 4-4 road record when they play the Pilots.
Pacific Northwest success: The last time the Dons traveled to Portland for a conference series against the Pilots, USF swept the series.
