THE RUNDOWN
SAN FRANCISCO - The University of San Francisco beach volleyball team is set to take on San Jose State (7-10) and Santa Clara (1-7) in a doubleheader on Saturday. Contests against the Spartans and the Broncos will both be rematches for the Dons.
First up on the weekend will be
SJSU. The Dons were defeated by the Spartans 2-3 in a close contest in Santa Cruz, Calif. just two weeks ago. Two's pairsÂ
Haley Howell andÂ
Carly Lowry and four's pairsÂ
Camille Araujo and Erika Ronda each swept in their match ups. Â
After the dual with the Spartans, the Dons will turn around to play
Santa Clara. USF took down SC in the season-opening dual at the Stanford Bay Area Kick Off in the first weekend of March. The Dons won 3-2. At USF's one and two pairs wereÂ
Haley Howell andÂ
Carly Lowry, andÂ
Julia Topor andÂ
Anna Dalla Vecchia, respectively. Each of the top positions swept their games, 2-0, with Howell/Lowry earning the win-clinching match. In the five spot,Â
Sabrina Blackwell andÂ
Laura Leap, topped Santa Clara 2-1.Â
The Broncos are on an 0-3 skid, while Coach Lavrisha's squad is 1-4 in the last five matches.Â
First serve on Saturday is set for noon against SJSU, followed by a 3 p.m. start against Santa Clara.Â
THOUGHTS FROM FRANCISCOÂ
Head coach
Frank Lavrisha:
"We are excited to play a couple of opponents for the second time this spring season. We get to play San Jose State after a narrow 3-2 match loss two weeks ago. Host Santa Clara, will be our second opponent. We had a solid match win against them early on at the Stanford Invitational. Our training has gone well this week learning valuable lessons from the Cal match last Friday."
