Last time against Cal: The two teams faced off earlier in the season, with the Golden Bears earning a one run win, 5-4. Cal jumped out to an early lead, scoring two in the first inning and one off a solo home run in the third. USF would be next on the board, cutting the Cal lead to one with a run in both the fourth and fifth inning. Both teams would add two runs before the end of the game, but Cal would ultimately win.

Conference Success: USF has now won their first four conference series', sweeping the first two over Pacific and Portland. This past weekend, the Dons took another two out of three from East Bay rivals, Saint Mary's. After the Gaels tied up the score in game one of the series in the eighth inning, USF would score three in the ninth to win. The two teams played a doubleheader on Sunday with the Dons taking one of two games to win the series. USF is leading the WCC with a record of 10-2.

Starting Slominski: In three of the last four midweek games, Daniel Slominski has be given the nod for the Dons in the starting role. Usually a bullpen guy, Slominski's has put in solid performances as the Tuesday starter against Nevada and twice against Oregon. Although he got the loss against the Ducks last week, the junior went five innings and striking out five. Oregon hit two solo home runs that were the blemish on his outing.

Putting it Together: So far this season, the Dons have similar records when they play at home (10-5) in comparison to playing on the road (10-7). Last year USF struggled on the road, putting together a record of 10-20 away from home.

The Key Three: The top of the order, Jonathan Allen, Riley Helland and Michael Perri have been catalysts of the offense this year. The three all own above .300 batting averages, while being in the top-four in hits, batting average, RBIs and runs. With those three getting on base, they have provided clean-up hitter, Ross Puskarich, many opportunities to drive runs in, which the senior has done to the tune of 21 RBIs.

Gem Twirler: Sophomore Riley Ornido improved on his team leading strike out tally to 61 this weekend in a 1-0 win over Saint Mary's. His 61 strikeouts is good for fourth in the conference. Ornido leads the WCC in wins (7) and batting average against (.128). Nationally, Ornido ranks third in hits allowed per nine innings (3.83), fourth in WHIP (.69), and 32nd in ERA (1.50).

Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week: On the back of his outing against Saint Mary's this weekend, Riley Ornido earned conference honors as pitcher of the week. He threw 7 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, while striking out six and keeping the Gaels scoreless in a 1-0 win.
