Nino Giarratano is pleased to announce in the late-signing period the addition of Jake Munoz (College of Marin / Lewiston, Idaho), Julian Washburn (Walla Walla Community College / Lewiston, Idaho), Grant Nechak (Moorpark College / Calabasas, Calif.) and Ryan Hecker (North Kitsap High School / Bremerton, Wash.) to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of San Francisco for the 2018-19 year.
After taking a look at the College of Marin's Jake Munoz, we now look at our next incoming recruit for the 2018-19 season in right-hand pitcher, Julian Washburn, from Walla Walla Community College. In his freshman year as a Warrior, Washburn has made nine appearances with six of those being as a starter.
"Coach Dave Meliah (USF 1997) has put together an outstanding program in Walla Walla and we couldn't be more excited to be bringing in one of his top young arms," said Giarratano. "Julian has the ability to pound the strike zone with three pitches and has the maturity and confidence to be very successful both on and off the field. He will be a force coming out of our bullpen or as a starter for us. The Hilltop is the perfect place for Julian to challenge himself to be great every day."
Throughout this year, Washburn has been extended more in each of the games he has made an appearance, going nine full innings in his last start where he allowed just one run over three hits, while striking out thirteen. The freshman has thrown for 41 innings this year, recording 47 strikeouts and two saves.
"I'm very excited for Julian to be headed to USF. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Hilltop and I think this will be a perfect fit for Julian, as well," said Walla Walla Community College head coach Dave Meliah. "He has a great desire to succeed both on the field and in the classroom and I truly believe that the Dons coaching staff will push him to be the best that he can be in both areas."
Stay tuned next week as we will preview the third junior college transfer of this crop, another right-hand pitcher, Grant Nechak, from Moorpark College who will join the Dons next season.
