Dons Capture Programs Fourth WCC Men’s All-Sport Trophy

SAN BRUNO, Calif. –  For the fourth time in program history, the University of San Francisco men's teams have captured the West Coast Conference Men's All-Sports Trophy.  The WCC announced its WCC Commissioner's Cup standings with the Dons taking home the top spot on the men's side with 37.5 points.

The WCC Commissioner's Cup is an all-sports award presented at the end of each academic year to the league's top-performing school in conference competition and is based on a point system, reflecting the finish of each team in conference play. The institution with the highest point total after combining the men's and women's point totals is honored with the Commissioner's Cup.

Since the WCC Commissioner's Cup inception in 2001-02, the Dons have won the Men's All-Sport Trophy four times, the first coming in 2005-06. USF's 37.5 points this season is the second-highest total in program history, second only to the 2005-06 year when the Dons scored 40.0 points. USF also took home the all-sport trophy in 2008-09 and again in 2010-11.

The Dons had a stellar year in 2017-18.  Of the six men's teams that compete in WCC sponsored sports, USF finished fifth or higher in five of them.  Highlighting the strong season was the men's soccer program capturing its 12th WCC Championship, the first under fifth-year head coach Eddie Soto.

Finishing in the top-five was men's cross country (3rd), men's basketball (tied-4th), baseball (4th), and men's' golf (5th).

The women finished eighth in the WCC Women's All-Sport Trophy with 36.5 points, which is tied for the most points in program history with the 2015-16 season. The Dons had three teams finish in the top-five on the women's side, led by women's cross country capturing its first WCC title since 2013. Women's golf took third and women's basketball finished in fifth.

"Congratulations to our students who compete every day to win at the highest level," said Director of Athletics Scott Sidwell. "Winning the WCC Men's All-Sports Trophy is a great honor for our department.  Finishing atop the WCC is no easy task. As a group, we will continue to aim higher for greatness and have our sights set on winning the cup soon."
Overall, BYU finished atop the Commissioner's Cup standings with 94.0, besting second place Loyola Marymount (89.0 points) and third place Gonzaga (83.0).
