SAN FRANCISCO – Mia Villegas, an incoming freshman on the University of San Francisco women's soccer team, will be playing in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, which takes place Aug. 5-24 in France.
The native of Davis, Calif., will be making her second appearance on the Mexican National Team, she also played for Mexico on the U-17 Tournament. Villegas was on the Mexican U-20 team that defeated the United States in January.
Mexico opens the tournament play in Group B and will begin the tournament on Sunday, Aug. 5 against Brazil. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. PT, and the game will be televised live on FS1. Mexico will resume play on Wednesday, Aug. 8 against North Korea at 7:30 a.m. PT on FS2 before concluding group play on Sunday, Aug. 12 against England at 4:30 a.m. PT on FS1.
The knock-out stage begins on Thursday, Aug. 16, with the semifinals being held on Monday, Aug. 20 and the Championship match on Friday, Aug. 24.
USF opens its season on Friday, Aug. 17 at 1:30 p.m. against Drake at the Montana Cup.
