SAN FRANCISCO – Golfstat released its first ranking on Wednesday, the University of San Francisco cracked the top-50, coming in at 48
th. USF also had two players listed in its top-250 players led by
Matthew Anderson who is ranked No. 29.
The Dons opened the year ranked No. 62 in the initial Golfstat ranking and reached as high as 52
nd prior to the Olympic Club Intercollegiate. The Dons spent most of 2018-19 in the high 60's.
USF's ranking at No. 48 is the highest since the Dons were ranked No. 45 heading into the WCC Championships in 2018. That year the Dons were 45
th and headed to an NCAA Regional appearance.
This season, the Dons are off to a terrific start. Through three tournaments, USF boasts a stroke average of 295.3, and has captured back-to-back second place finishes. In all three tournaments, the Dons have had four individual top-10 finishes.
Anderson, the sophomore from Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, has had a tremendous spring. He has two top-five finishes, the first of his career. He boasts a stroke average 72.0 and has three rounds at par or better. His No. 29 ranking is believed to be the highest individual ranking in USF history.
Senior
Tim Widing is the other Don ranked in the Golfstat Top-250. Widing, who is second on the team in stroke average (73.2), and birdies (26) recently finished right behind Anderson in third at the Oregon State Invitational. It was Widing's 17
th career top-10 finish.
The Dons are back in action on Monday, November 4 when they travel to Pebble Beach, Calif., to participate in the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course. It is the final fall tournament for the Dons.
