BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The University of San Francisco women's golf team capped off a stellar tournament by shooting an even par 288 in the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown to finish second overall. In doing so, USF secured their best tournament finish since March 2018, when they took second at the Sacramento State Invitational. The Dons finished the tournament shooting a 23-over 887 (296-303-288), with two players finishing in the top-10.

Sara Doell "While we didn't get the win we were looking for, I am so proud of how hard we fought this week. To finish the tournament shooting our best round is a culmination of an outstanding fall season for us. We came out strong today with several birdies in the first few holes and made a run at UNLV but we just couldn't catch them. I am so proud of this team and all of the hard work they put in this fall to have such an incredible fall season."
The Dons were led by senior co-captain
Samantha Gong and
Annika Borrelli who finished tied for sixth. This was the duo's second top-10 finish of the fall season.
Gong finished the tournament shooting a 3-over 75 to finish with a 54-hole score of 3-over 219 (72-72-75). The 219 is her best 54 hole score on a par 72 this season. She also finished the day with three birdies, giving her nine birdies and an eagle for the tournament. She goes into the spring season with 32 birdies which is second most on the squad.
"While I didn't finish strong on the last couple holes and struggled with my putter, I'm really pleased with the results of this tournament," said Gong. "I'm very proud of this team and how we have come together and so excited to take this momentum into the spring season."
Borrelli finished the tournament with an even par 72, for the tournament she shot a 3-over 219 (74-73-72). Borrelli opened the round with a par on the first and a birdie on the second, she went into the turn even par. Seven pars and a birdie on 15 had her 1-under on the back, she finished with a bogey on 18 to go even for the round. For the tournament, Borrelli carded 11 birdies which was tied for fourth most in the tournament. She finishes the spring with 35 birdies, which leads the team.
Freshman
Toni Sottile had a tremendous day to finish her first collegiate tournament. Sottile climbed 19 spots on the final day to finish tied for 24
th. She carded a 2-under 70 for the day, giving her a 3-day score of 9-over 225 (76-79-70). Sottile was even on the front after recording birdies on three and four open the round. On the back nine she was perfect, finishing with birdies on 15 and 17 to go 2-under.
"Playing in my first collegiate event was better than I ever imagined," said Sottile. "I loved being out here and I'm so grateful for this experience. To be able to shoot under par to finish the fall really shows me what I can do!"
Pearl Rojanapeansatith and
Jade Siphomsay finished tied for 58
th. Rojanapeansatith climbed 17 spots on the leaderboard on the final day and shot a 1-under 71 to finish 16-over 232 (82-79-71). Siphomsay shot a 6-over 78 go finished 16-over 232 (74-80-78).
UNLV took home the team championship with a 15-over 879 (301-291-287). East Tennessee State's Tereze Melecka caught the Rebel's Elina Saksa for the individual championship, the two finished with a 4-under 212.
The Dons are off until the spring season begins in February.
