WGOLF | Annika Borrelli Named NCGA Women’s Player of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO – University of San Francisco women's golfer Annika Borrelli has been named the 2018-19 Northern California Golf Association's (NCGA) Women's Player of the Year, as announced by the NCGA on Monday.

"Its humbling and exciting to receive this award," said Borrelli. "This whole year was a culmination of hard work and the results started showing more. I was fortunate enough to have a lot of support from home and school to keep pushing me so this award recognizes a lot of influential people in my life. This has motivated me to keep working hard and I can't wait to keep achieving my goals!"

Borrelli's strong freshman campaign last season catapulted her performance in the 2019 NCGA season.  The native of Alamo, Calif., took home the honors thanks to a second place finish at the NCGA Women's Amateur Championship, a semifinals run at the California Women's Amateur, and a top-10 finish at the California Women's Championship. The combined results gave Borrelli 695 points to finish ahead of runner-up Nicole Schroeder (625).

Borrelli's fantastic freshman campaign and stellar summer has propelled her to a fast start in her sophomore campaign.  Through four tournaments, she leads the Dons with an average round score of 74.  She's been the Dons top finisher three times and has two top-10 finishes this season, her 35 birdies leads the Dons.

"What an incredible accomplishment for Annika to win this award," said head coach Sara Doell. "She has represented us and the Dons family in such a positive way. She works hard in the classroom, she works hard in the gym, she is mentally tough and she is passionate about the game of golf. Our team could not be more proud of her!"

Borrelli was joined by Jason Anthony, the Men's Player of the Year, Randy Haag, the Senior Men's Player of the Year, Lynne Cowan, the Senior Women's Player of the Year, and Chuck Richesin, the Super Senior of the Year.

USF will resume its 2019-20 campaign in February when the spring season begins.
