FAIRFAX, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's golf team turned in their best round of the tournament thanks to a strong day on the green. Unfortunately, USF was only able to move up one spot on the leaderboard and finished the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate in ninth with a 34-over 898 (301-301-296).
"First, I want to thank all the volunteers, San Jose State's staff, and Meadow Club for allowing us to put on such a terrific event," said head coach
Sara Doell. "Congratulations to Rutgers for taking home the team title and to Harriet Allsebrook our individual champion. I thought we performed much better today, our putters showed up and we were more competitive as a whole and finished the tournament on a positive note. Really looking forward to get back on to the course to get some solid practice in and we will carry today's momentum over to the Silverado Showdown."
USF, who had all four scorers finish in the top-50, was led by freshman
Annika Borrelli who finished the tournament tied for 26 with a 7-over 223 (74-71-78). Borrelli just couldn't stay out of trouble in the final round, carding a pair of double-bogies to finish the day with a 6-over 78. On the whole, she finished the tournament with eight birdies which was tied for 17
th most in the tournament.
Junior
Samantha Gong had a tremendous final round. She climbed 16 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 35th after shooting an even par 72 for the day. For the tournament, Gong shot a 9-over 225 (73-80-72). Over the final 18 holes she carded five birdies, giving her 11 for the tournament. The 11 birdies are tied for second most, four back tournament champion Allsebrook who had 15.
Sophomores
Pearl Rojanapeansatith and
Joan Soewondo both climbed five spots on the leaderboard and finished tied at 39
th with duel 10-over 226s. Rojanapeansatith finished the tournament with a 2-over 74 on the final day, giving her a 54-hole score of 78-74-74. Soewondo also recorded a 2-over on the final round and finished the tournament with a 76-76-74.
Freshman
Jade Siphomsay had her best round of the tournament as well. She finished the afternoon with a 4-over 76. For the tournament she recorded a 20-over 236 (80-80-76). Carly Hopton, competing as an individual finished in 72
nd place with a 41-over 257 (88-82-87).
Rutgers was the tournament champion with a Rutgers who finished the tournament with a 4-over 868 (248-296-289). The individual champion, Allsebrook finished the tournament with a 9-under 207 (67-70-70).
The Dons will be off until April, when they stay in the Bay. USF will participate in the Silverado Showdown hosted by Oregon at the Silverado Resort in Napa April 7-9.
