RENO, Nev. — Back-to-back three-run innings, including four runs scored with two outs, helped carry Nevada past the University of San Francisco baseball team Tuesday, as the Wolfpack downed the Dons, 7-3, in a non-conference matchup at Peccole Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nevada (13-10) got on the scoreboard first in the third inning with three runs. The rally started with a solo home run from Joshua Zamora. A single and then an RBI double by Dillan Shrum made it 2-0, and Nick Seamons sent Shrum home with a two-out RBI single to give the Wolfpack a 3-0 lead.

  • The Wolfpack's biggest swing came in the next frame with the bases loaded and two outs. Shrum cleared the bases with a three-run triple that got past a diving USF outfielder. Shrum was thrown out at the plate trying to turn it into an inside-the-park home run, but the damage was done and Nevada led, 6-0.

  • San Francisco (13-11) started working itself back into the game in the sixth. The Dons scored three runs to pull within four thanks to RBI hits by Chase Hodkinson and Jacob Westerman, and an RBI groundout by Brandon Greim. But those were all the runs USF would get. The Dons had the leadoff batter reach in each of the next two innings and had all three of its first batters in the eighth reach, but could not push across a run.

  • Both teams had runners on the corners in the first inning, but neither team could score. Daniel Slominski made his season debut for USF, throwing two scoreless frames while only allowing two hits and walking none. San Francisco outhit Nevada, 12-9, but stranded 10 runners in the game.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • 4: Four Dons had multi-hit performances on Tuesday. Chase Hodkinson went 2 for 4 with a double, RBI and run scored, Robert Emery went 2 for 4 with a run scored, Riley Helland posted his third consecutive multi-hit game going 2 for 5, and Jack Winkler went 3 for 5 with a double.
  • 10: The 10 runners San Francisco left on base in the game marked the eighth time this season it has left double-digit runners on base. Five of them were left in scoring position.
