SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference released its annual preseason coaches' poll on Thursday, University of San Francisco women's soccer team was picked to finish for the third consecutive year. Senior forward
Miciah Madison was the lone Don named to the preseason All-WCC team.
Madison becomes the first Don to earn preseason honors since
Jessica Nakae and
Ali Schaffer were named to the team prior to the 2016 season. Madison, is coming off a breakout season in her junior campaign in which she earned USCA Second Team All-West Region honors as well as First Team All-WCC accolades. The native of Tracy, Calif., ranks sixth all-time in USF history with 14 assists. She finished last year with four goals and 11 assists which is a USF single-season record.
The Dons garnered 43 points overall in the poll, which was voted on by the conference's 10 head coaches
BYU and Santa Clara tied for the most points in the poll at 77 followed by Pepperdine with 65. Portland was picked to finish fourth with 47 points, Gonzaga was fifth with 44 followed by the Dons.
San Diego (40), LMU (30), Saint Mary's (18), and Pacific (9) round out the preseason poll.
The Dons are coming off an 11-7-2 2018 season which included a 4-3-2 mark in the WCC. It was just the third winning record in conference play for in program history, second under the leadership eighth year head coach
Jim Millinder.
USF will begin the 2019 season, the 35
th in program history, in the aloha state when they take on USC on Saturday, Aug. 24 as part of the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff hosted by Hawaii.
