Men's Basketball

MBB | Dons Add Center Jonas Visser for 2019-20 Season

SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco men's basketball team has signed Jonas Visser to a National Letter of Intent. He will be enrolling at USF in the fall and eligible to play immediately. The 6-10, 223-pound center is a native of Rijnsburg, Netherlands, where he attended the Centre for Sports and Education.

"We are excited to have Jonas join our program here on The Hilltop," said first-year head coach Todd Golden. "Jonas is a big and physical center who has started for the Netherlands youth national team over the past few years. He is a student-athlete with great character and intelligence and he will add depth to our front court. We are excited to watch his growth within our program over the course of his career."

This summer, Visser played for the Netherlands at the 2019 FIBA U18 European Championship which is currently taking place in Greece. In six games, he averaged 3.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In 2016-17, as a member of the U16 team, he averaged 8.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.1 assist per contest while averaging 15.9 minutes. In the Division B championship against Greece, he recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

As a prep, he played all six years for his school playing in the First Division in the Netherlands.  He was the top scorer in his league last year, averaging 23.4 points per game. He helped guide his team to several championship appearances over the last four years. He also played club basketball for "Landstede Basketbal" for head coach Ton Grit from 2016-19, where he routinely led his club to national cup championship appearances.

Visser will join a recruiting class that includes Isaiah Hawthorne, a 6-8 small forward from Tracy, Calif., and Josh Kunen, a 6-8 forward from Australia. Transfer Damari Milstead is a 6-2 guard from Grand Canyon who will sit out this season.
