SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco men's basketball team is pleased to announce its 2019-20 non-conference schedule. The Dons, under first-year head coach
Todd Golden, will challenge themselves by playing 10 teams coming off a winning record, including six teams that played in the postseason.
USF will play 15 non-conference games this season, nine coming at the friendly confines of War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. Five will be true road contests and one at the brand new home of the Golden State Warriors, the Chase Center.
"We made a conscious decision to challenge ourselves in the non-conference this season," said Golden. "We scheduled five true road games which will help prepare us for conference play, and these games will also give us an opportunity to build a strong 'resume' in the opening months."
POST SEASON EXPERIENCE
The Dons, who are coming off their third consecutive 20-win season, will open the year with eight straight games against teams that had winning records last year. Overall, the Dons will play six teams that advanced to the postseason last year, including Yale (Nov. 11) and Arizona State (Dec. 3) who advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Other postseason teams on the Dons' slate for 2019-20 include: CSU Bakersfield (Nov. 19), Sam Houston State (Nov. 23), Hampton (Nov. 26), and Harvard (Dec. 30).
PAC-12 COMES TO THE HILLTOP
This season the Dons will play three games against Pac-12 foes. Following the ASU contest, the Dons will host Cal on Wednesday, Dec. 4. It will be Cal's first trip back to the Hilltop since 1997. Later that month, USF will make the short trip to Stanford, Calif., to take on the Cardinal on Dec. 17.
"We are excited to have three Pac-12 games in the upcoming season," added Golden. "It's a great opportunity for our program to host teams like Cal and Arizona State here in War Memorial Gymnasium. The opportunity to compete against Stanford on the road will be another great test. These Pac-12 games become great litmus tests for us as we head into conference play."
IVY LEAGUE FOES
The East Coast comes west for three contests this year. The Dons will play three teams from the Ivy League. USF will host Princeton on Nov. 9 at the Chase Center, the first collegiate game played at the new home of the Warriors. The Dons will host the Bulldogs two days later in a battle of two teams coming off 20-win campaigns. USF will wrap up its non-conference slate against Harvard on Dec. 30. All three teams from the Ivy League finished last season with winning records.
After the game against Cal, USF will travel to Cal State Fullerton on Dec. 14. They will host UC Davis on Dec. 21 and return to the road for a game at Fresno State on Dec. 23.
