WGOLF | Dons Travel to Pullman to Participate in WSU Cougar Cup

After a strong showing at the first tournament of the season, the University of San Francisco women's golf team looks to build on the momentum from last week. The Dons head to Pullman, Wash., to participate in the WSU Cougar Cup hosted by Washington State at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

"After coming off of a really great first event, we are excited to be back on the road headed to Pullman to compete in the Cougar Cup," said head coach Sara Doell. "This is a preview to the Spring Western regional and the field is very strong. Likely the strongest field we will see all fall. We took two days off between events, and had one solid practice and work out and the team is in a great place to head into our second event"

The Course
Carved into a broad expanse of rolling hills on the Pullman campus of Washington State University, Palouse Ridge Golf Club, a par-72 course, will play 6,239 yards on the opening day and 6,277 on the final day.  It is the site of the NCAA Western Regional for the women this spring.  Last year, men's golfer Tim Widing finished in fourth when the men played the NCAA Western Regional there.

The Field
Aside from the Dons, the fifteen-team tournament will feature BYU, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Gonzaga, Idaho, New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Seattle U, Washington, and host Washington State.

The Dons
USF will be using the same lineup as last week. Senior co-captain Samantha Gong will lead the group consisting of juniors Pearl Rojanapeansatith and Joan Soewondo as well as sophomores Annika Borelli and Jade Siphomsay.

"It's a quick turnaround from our first event, but the team is well rested and ready to go," said Gong. "I'm excited to see how our team can stack up against so many Pac-12 teams, and other strong teams in this field."

Siphomsay is coming off perhaps the best tournament in her collegiate career, capturing a tie at 30th.  In the final round, Siphomsay climbed 13 spots and finished on a roll, carding birdies on four of the last eight holes.

"After coming off my best college round from last week's tournament, I feel confident and ready to go," said Siphomsay. "We had a really great practice on Thursday where we competed and the team looked focused and committed to being better. We took yesterday off and I feel very rested, and I'm excited to get up to Pullman and see what we can do."
