SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco women's golf team had three players named to the West Coast Conference Preseason Team: senior
Samantha Gong, junior
Pearl Rojanapeansatith and sophomore
Annika Borrelli. The Dons were also picked to finish third in the WCC with one first place vote in the annual preseason coaches' poll.
For Gong, this marks the second consecutive year she has been named to the Preseason Team. The 2018 All-WCC honoree is off to a strong start. In two fall tournaments, she leads the Dons with three rounds under par. She's coming off a strong finish at the WSU Cougar Cup in which she posted back-to-back rounds at par or better to finish the tournament with a 4-over 220, her best 54-hole score since the Las Vegas Collegiate in the fall of 2018.
For Rojanapeansatith and Borrelli, this is their first preseason nod. Borrelli earned all-conference honors as a freshman and is off to a very strong start. The native of Alamo, Calif., led the Dons at the WSU Cougar Cup, capturing a tie at 16th with a 1-under 215, her first collegiate round under par.
Rojanapeansatith, the native of Bangkok, led the Dons at the Minnesota Invitational, finishing tied for 17th with a 2-over 146 after 36 holes.
As a team, USF was once again picked to finish third in the preseason coaches' poll. This is the second consecutive year the Dons were picked to finish in the middle of the pack. This season, USF took home 11 points and one first place vote. They trail BYU who was picked to finish second with 12 points and Pepperdine who was predicted to finish first with 16 points and four first place votes.
The Dons will be back in action next week when they travel to Ft. Collins, Colo., to participate in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic hosted by Colorado State.
