FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The University of San Francisco women's golf team bounced back Tuesday and played a tremendous final round, carding the lowest round of the tournament with a 2-over 290. With the strong showing, the Dons climbed two spots on the leaderboard to finish third with a 33-over 897 (303-304-290) at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic hosted by Colorado State.
The Dons had three players crack the top-15 with
Annika Borrelli and
Pearl Rojanapeansatith both finishing in the top-5. Borrelli climbed 15 spots on the final day to finish in third, while Rojanapeansatith continued her steady play and finished in a tie for fourth.
"We had a great team meeting yesterday at the end of play and discussed how we were going to bounce back after a rough day," said head coach
Sara Doell. "Our goal as a team was to shoot the lowest round of the day in the third round and we did. Bouncing back to shoot 290 was significant for us!"
Borrelli's strong day began on the par-five fifth. After bogeys on seven and 10, Borrelli was 2-over when she caught fire. The sophomore from Alamo, Calif., recorded birdies on 13, 16, 17, 18, and four to finish the day with a 3-under 69. In doing so, she climbed 15 spots on the leaderboard for her second career top-5 finish. For the tournament, Borrelli carded a 3-over 219 (73-77-69).
"I'm really, really proud of the strong finish I had, shooting a three under par and capturing a third place finish in the field," said Borrelli. "I'm even happier with the way our team finished. We bounced back in a big way and moved up two spots on the leaderboard to finish third as well. I'm looking forward to getting back home and taking a few days off."
Rojanapeansatith continued her largely mistake-free golf, finishing the day with a 1-over 73 to go four-over 220 (73-74-73) for the tournament. It is her first career top-10 finish. Her 38 pars for the tournament was second only to Borrelli's 40. She also carded two birdies on the day to give her seven for the tournament.
"It was a great day today," said Rojanapeansatith. "I'm very pleased that I reached one of my goals I set, which was to finish top-five in a tournament. I was so happy to have my parents all the way here from Thailand to be watching me play some of my best golf so far. It was really great to have Coach Doughtery walk with me the last couple holes to calm me down, as well. Looking forward to Washington!"
Jade Siphomsay climbed six spots on the leaderboard in the final day to finish tied for 12th. It is her first career top-20 finish. Siphomsay opened the day with a birdie on six and after recording bogies on seven, nine, 14, and 16, she carded birdies on 18 and four to finish the day with a 1-over 73. For the tournament, she finished with a 7-over 223 (73-77-73). The 223 is the second-best 54 hole score for a par-72 in the sophomore's career.
Junior
