SAN FRANCISCO – When Zhane Dikes and her teammate Taylor Proctor came to the Hilltop, the women's basketball program was coming off a five-win season. The two guided the Dons to their first NCAA appearance since 1997.
In this week's edition of Tuesday Testimonials, USF Senior Associate Athletics Director
Frank Allocco talks with Dikes to discuss her background, her connection to the university, her brilliant career, and that magical season.
The two begin the episode by discussing Dikes' parents, and their influence on her. They never pushed her into anything--but they did push her to be uncomfortable in what she chose to do, to maximize her potential.
The two move on to her breakout freshman campaign. Allocco asks Dikes if that transition to Division I basketball was as easy as she made it look. She explains that adjusting to life on the Hilltop is more than just what goes on on the hardwood—it's also about the behind the scenes adjustments in the classroom.
The episode concludes with Allocco asking Dikes about her progression from the All-Freshman team to leading the Dons to the NCAA Tournament and earning All-WCC All-Tournament Team honors.
