USF Announces Dons Together Initiative

SAN FRANCISCO – USF Athletics has been adjusting and adapting to new normals during this pandemic. From rescheduling fall sports to the spring, working with our athletes to ensure high level mental and physical health with an emphasis on maintaining safety and providing the best experience possible. To help offset the budget shortfall created by the challenges of the pandemic, the University of San Francisco Athletics Department has launched the Dons Together Initiative, with the goal of raising $1 million to support the San Francisco Dons Fund.

"Over the last eight months, our department has been significantly impacted by the devastating effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic," said Director of Athletics Joan McDermott. "Despite this adversity, we are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for our student-athletes. Our students are our first priority and now they need your help to safeguard their current and future experiences at USF."

To support the University's comprehensive budget shortfall, the athletics department has already adjusted to a 20% reduction in staff positions and a 25% reduction of the overall athletics budget.  Alongside all USF departments and staff, the entire athletic department is participating in a compensation reduction plan including all head coaches and administrators. These significant cost savings have taken place before seeking the support of USF alumni, parents, friends, and fans. Philanthropy is essential to sustain programs and balance the shortfall of revenue lost.

Please support athletics by making a gift to the Dons Together initiative.

Gifts will support athletic scholarships, safe team travel, and improve physical, academic, and mental health coaching to enhance the student-athlete experience and help fund increased COVID-19 testing and protocols.
