2026 Hall of Fame Class Spotlight: John Troccoe

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco (USF) Athletics department will begin a new spotlight series highlighting each member of the 2026 Hall of Fame class leading up to the induction ceremonies.

The sixth member of the upcoming class to be honored is USF almunus, superfan, and former Hall of Fame Committe member/chairman John Troccoe.

JOHN TROCCOE:

John Troccoe was an avid sports fan and reveled in all things related to his alma mater, the University of San Francisco. Graduating in 1970, Troccoe supported the Dons for nearly 60 years and was unofficially known as the historian for USF Athletics. He served on the USF Athletics Hall of Fame Committee for over 30 years, first as a member and later as its chair. He was known for his extensive research and player profiles during the committee's yearly selection process. Troccoe also provided and organized a majority of artifacts, team memorabilia, or objects for display in the Silk Family Hall of Fame, located on the court level of USF's gym, War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. Specifically, he was instrumental in the creation and decoration of the Bill Russell Room inside of War Memorial, with the majority of the items, programs, and documents being from his own personal collection. He also led the efforts in setting up a memorabilia room display to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1951 USF football team, where members of the team, as well as staff, reconnected on their historic season. Troccoe was not shy to roll up his sleeves, always offering university staff to help in each process. He was proudly a season ticket holder for both basketball teams on the Hilltop since his graduation in 1970, and a member of the old Dons Century Club and a board member of the USF Green and Gold Club.

Following his retirement from his professional career as a vice president for the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco, Troccoe founded his own company, "Corporate Ready", and worked with USF developing disaster preparedness plans, establishing evacuation routes, and testing and upgrading alarm and notification systems in all buildings and facilities on the Hilltop campus to keep everyone safe. Troccoe also served on USF's Alumni Board of Governors for many years, both as a member and as the chair of the committee. In 1989, Troccoe spearheaded bringing homecoming events back to campus, an initiative that inspired school spirit throughout the university. He also served on multiple search committees for Athletics Directors and athletics department personnel. Troccoe received the USF Alumni Service Award and was the leader of the Class of 1970 alumni events and reunions.

He was the ultimate family man, and his love for his alma mater was surpassed only by his love for his wife, his daughter, and their beloved family. Troccoe recently passed away on May 13, 2025, and is survived by his wife, Rosemarie, and his daughter, Jennifer, son-in-law Adam Leavitt, grandsons Tanner and Cade, brother-in-law and wife, Bill and Margie Maring, as well as their children Brian Maring and Ellen Maring Gaspar.

The Father Hub Flynn Hall of Fame Celebration is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026, at the McLaren Conference Center on the main campus of USF. The festivities will begin with a social hour reception from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by the Hall of Fame Program from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Dress is business casual. Inductees will also be honored at halftime of the USF men's basketball game vs. Washington State later that day, with the game beginning at 4:00 pm inside War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
