SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Northern California Golf Association recently announced that
Annika Borrelli was selected as the 2020-21 NCGA Women's Player of the Year. Notably, this is the second time Borrelli has received this honor as she becomes the first two-time recipient of the award since Sabrina Iqbal won twice for TCU.
"We are extremely proud of Annika," said head coach
Sara Doell. "The hard work she has put in to earn this honor again has been recognized and there is no one more deserving that I know for this award. It is always a joy to watch Annika compete on the course... I think she has a tremendously bright future and I look forward to our team returning to action in February 2022."
After not reaching the U.S.Women's Amateur Qualifier in July of 2020, Borrelli bounced back by winning both the NCGA Women's Amateur and the California Women's Amateur Championship, all within the same month. Overall, she would finish the season with 1,130 points with Ellie Bushnell finishing as the runner-up by a wide margin with 760 points.
"It is a huge honor this time around," said Borrelli. "The first time I won it (2019), I promised myself that I'd have a win under my belt. So it feels like I've gone full-circle."
This fall, Borrelli finished in the top 25 individually in two of the four tournaments in which USF competed, highlighted by placing tied for third at The Clash at Boulder Creek with a 1-over-217. Midway through her senior year, Borrelli maintains one year of eligibility due to the pandemic. She aspires to join the professional ranks upon graduation from USF.
