Series vs. PACIFIC
Saturday is the 108th meeting between USF and Pacific - though the Tigers have only been conference rivals for 20 years at various times, Pacific is one of USF's most consistent opponents historically. All-time the Dons own a 76-31 record against UOP - in Stockton the Dons are 29-21, at home USF is 41-9 and at a neutral site the Dons own a 6-1 advantage in the series that dates back to the 1911-12 season. In the first ever contest the Tigers defeated the Dons 19-15 in Stockton. Last season the Dons took two of three from the Tigers with each team winning a game at home in the regular season. The Dons blasted the Tigers in the quarterfinals of the WCC Tournament on Mar. 7, winning 72-54.
About the TIGERS
The Tigers are in rebuild year after the loss of all-conference player Jahlil Tripp. Pacific has played just 16 games due to various COVID pauses - on the year they are 8-8 but have lost 3 of their last seven contests include last Thursday night's 58-46 loss at Saint Mary's. In WCC play the Tigers are 5-7. At the Alex G. Spanos Center they are 5-2. As a team, Pacific is averaging 69.0 points per game and shooting 43.2 percent from the field. They are not a good 3-point shooting team, making just 29.7 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc. Their opponents are connecting on over 35.0 percent of their attempts from 3-point range. Sophomore guard Daniss Jenkins is averaging 12.0 points per game to lead UOP, he is one of three players in double figures.
Last Time Out Versus PACIFIC
Pacific's first team all-league player, Jahlil Tripp, jogged into the locker room at halftime with 23 points. Though the Dons had a one-point lead, they seemingly had no answer for Tripp who was scoring at will.
That changed in the second half. Out of the break, USF went to a zone that confused the Tigers who missed the first five shots from the field after the intermission. During that time, USF – who was steadily scoring all contest, built momentum.
The Dons outscored Pacific 36-19 in the second half en route to a dominating 72-54 win over the fourth seeded Tigers.
