BASE | Dons Announce First Signees of 2022 Recruiting Class

USFDons.com is detailing all of the Dons' signees for the 2021-22 school year, starting with this first installment, announcing the first five signees of the class.

SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco baseball team announced the first signings of their incoming class for the 2021-22 school year, featuring three talented pitchers and two versatile position players.
 

Sam Beck | Warren, N.J. | Lynn University/Skidmore College/Rutgers Prep

Journeyman righty Sam Beck heads west to come to San Francisco as a graduate transfer from NCAA Division II program Lynn University, a member of the powerful Sunshine State Conference. Beck started his college career in 2018 at Division III Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., where he struck out 23 in 11 appearances (four starts). He also batted .233 in 30 at-bats with two RBIs that season. He then headed to Boca Raton, Fla., to play at Lynn in 2019, making 10 starts in 14 games. He totaled 51 1/3 innings and struck out 34 batters, including a season-high six against Tuskegee University to earn his first career victory.
 
Beck was one of the top prep players in his home state of New Jersey. He was ranked as one of the top 100 prep players in the state and the No. 33 right-handed pitcher. He was also considered to be among the nation's top 1,000 high school players, and among the top-750 for right-handed pitchers.

Elvin Delic comes to USF has a highly rated two-way player out of Cosumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove. His "Perfect Game" scouting grade of 9.5 projects him to be a potential top-10 round MLB Draft pick, or one of the highest level college prospects. He's played varsity baseball in each of his first three years at Cosumnes Oaks. He hit .349 as a freshman in 2018 with six doubles and a triple, and was batting .444 to start the 2020 season before it was cut short. As a pitcher, he posted back-to-back sub-3.00 ERAs in his freshman and sophomore seasons, logged double-digit strikeouts and only allowed one home run in more than 40 innings pitched.

Patrick Keighran comes to the Dons from the prestigious Serra High School program on the Peninsula. In 2019 he helped lead the Padres to a co-championship in the powerful West Catholic Athletic League. Keighran plays in both the infield and outfield, and brings right-handed power to the Dons. Last spring, he was named a preseason underclass All-American by Perfect Game, and was ranked among the nation's top-500 prep players.

Lance Santerre | Gridley, Calif. | Delta College/Gridley HSLance Santerre

Left-handed pitcher Lance Santerre has found success at every level he's pitched at. During three years of varsity baseball at Gridley (Calif.) High School, he carried a 1.07 ERA in more than 150 innings, struck out more than 260 batters, and only allowed one home run. His junior year of 2018 was most impressive. He racked up 108 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings against only 18 walks, posted a 0.42 ERA while going 10-1 with eight complete games (five shutouts). He was also potent with a bat, hitting .444 with 22 extra-base hits, 59 RBIs and 40 runs scored across his junior and senior seasons.
 
Last spring at Delta College in his first season of college baseball, he posted a 1-1 record and 2.55 ERA in seven games before the season was cut short, striking out 13 and only walking four in 17 2/3 innings pitched.

Adam Shew comes to USF with a deep baseball pedigree. His brother, Anthony, was an all-West Coast Conference honoree and WCC All-Academic student-athlete for the Dons in 2015 and 2016 and has risen as high as Triple-A ball in his professional career. His cousin Ian Kennedy enters the 14th season of his MLB career in 2021.
 
Shew was already Brookings-Harbor High School's No. 2 pitcher as a freshman in 2018. He had a breakout sophomore year in 2019, going 9-2 with a 1.77 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 59 innings, helping the Bruins win the 3A Far West League title and reached the state quarterfinals. Shew also batted .316 as an infielder in two seasons for Brookings-Harbor.
