
MGOLF | Men’s Golf Championships Begins Friday

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The 19th ranked University of San Francisco men's golf team is ready to compete for a National Championship. The Dons open the first round of the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale tomorrow morning, beginning at 6:10 a.m.
This is actually the second time in program history the Dons have competed in the NCAA Championships. The first game in 1966 when the Dons got the invite at the NCAA Championships that was held at Stanford Golf Course, that year USF finished 30th.
USF's journey to the National Championships was a little different this time around. The Dons captured second at the Cle Elum Regional at Tumble Creek at Suncadia Resort, finishing the 54-hole event with a 4-under 848 (278-283-287). It was the top-finish by the Dons in their seven regional appearances.
This weekend, USF will square off against the 30 teams that finished in the top-five of their respective regional. The Dons are the 17th seed and will be paired with SMU and Florida in the opening round.
Also competing this week, in order of seeding: Florida State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Clemson, Texas, North Carolina, Wake Forrest, Illinois, Pepperdine, Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Georgia, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Liberty, SMU, USF, Florida, Texas Tech, Arkansas, San Diego State, George Tech, Louisville, Sam Houston State, Oregon State, UAB, TCU, East Tennessee State, Little Rock, and San Diego.
With the Dons joining the Waves and Toreros it is the first time the WCC has had three teams in the NCAA Championship.
USF will be going with the same lineup that as the regionals: Tim Widing, Soren Lind, Christoffer Palsson, Matthew Anderson and Toby Briggs.
Live scoring for this event will be available at Golfstat.com. The Golf Channel will provide coverage on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
The NCAA Championships will be played at the par-70, 7,289-yard Raptor Course at Grayhawk Golf Club. A traditional 18 hole stroke play format will take place Friday through Sunday. The field will be cut to 15 on Monday with one more stroke play round. On Tuesday the top-eight teams will complete in match play with Wednesday's round determining the national champion.
