SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco women's basketball team has added more thunder to its front court with the addition of Debora Reis, a 6-foot forward from Rio de Janeiro, who signed a National Letter of Intent to attend USF for the 2021-22 season.
Reis comes to the Hilltop by way of South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, where she quickly rose the ranks to become the No. 5 rated junior college prospect. The NCAA's eligibility waiver as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic will grant Reis four years of eligibility with the Dons. Prior to her stint at junior college, Reis attended Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah where she lettered one year in basketball and volleyball.
"Debora is high energy and highly productive," said head coach Molly Goodenbour. "She will be a tough presence for us on the boards and in the post area. She is a dynamic rebounder and proven scorer with an amazingly positive attitude and strong work ethic. We are so excited that she will join our program next season. She's a fantastic addition."
Reis's one year playing for the Texans was a fruitful one, garnering Third Team All-American honors. She led South Plains to a quarterfinal appearance at the NJCAA Women's National Tournament. Her outstanding performance earned her WJCAC MVP and Freshman of the Year honors.
In 24 games played she averaged 13.6 points per game, 13.0 rebounds per game with 51 blocks and 31 steals. She finished in double figures in all but two contests and finished with 19 double-doubles.
At Wasatch Academy, she was named to the 2020 All-State 2A team after breaking a record for rebounds per game. For the year, she averaged 16.0 points per game and 13.6 rebounds per contest. On the volleyball court she helped guide the Tigers to a conference championship.
Reis joins an incoming class that includes 6'2" power forward Claudia Langarita from Spain, 6'4" forward Lorena Anunciacao from Brazil, 6'0" wing Kennedy Dickie from Eastern Washington, and 5'9" guard Aya Kéita from Hungary.
