Bouyea Selected as Lou Henson Award Finalist

BOSTON, Mass. – The finalists for the 2021-2022 Lou Henson Award were announced on Monday, Mar. 28.

The award, which is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball, honors the former Illinois and New Mexico State head coach who won 775 games in 41 seasons.

For San Francisco, graduate student Jamaree Bouyea was selected as one of 40 individuals for this year's award.

Players on teams from the following conferences are eligible for the award: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, Western Athletic, and West Coast.

Returning to the Hilltop for a fifth season this past year, Bouyea guided the Dons to a 24-10 overall record and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1997-98. Recently, he was named First Team All-WCC for the second season in a row while also being selected to the 2022 NABC District 9 First Team. Notably, Bouyea was also honored in January by earning a spot on the Lou Henson Award Midseason Watch List.

For Bouyea, the Seaside native shined throughout the season as the two-time WCC Player of the Week finished in the top five in the conference in total minutes (1, 107, first), minutes per game (35.7, first), made field goals (198, first), total points (528, second), total steals (54, third), points per game (17.0, fourth) and assists (126, fourth).

Proving to be a workhorse no matter the circumstances, the versatile guard also finished in the top ten in total blocks (26, sixth), made three-pointers (67, sixth) and defensive rebounds (142, eighth).

After his five years in the green and gold, Bouyea leaves USF as one of the most accomplished athletes in program history as he is also the program's all-time wins leader (98 wins) and is first all-time in games played (160).
