SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. –
Jamaree Bouyea, a three-time All-WCC selection, officially signed a Summer League contract with the Miami Heat following the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday evening.
"Jamaree is a tremendous basketball story," said current USF men's basketball coach
Chris Gerlufsen. "To go from virtually no Division I scholarship offers to now putting himself in a position to play in the NBA is truly remarkable. It is a testament to his work ethic and who he is as a person. Our entire university and basketball program here at USF could not be more proud of him."
Bouyea will join the Heat, who finished first overall in the Eastern Conference in 2021-22 with a 53-29 record under head coach Erik Spoelstra. Notably, the Heat were just one game away from reaching their second NBA Finals in three seasons this year as they battled the Boston Celtics to seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Capping off his five-year career on the Hilltop with an NCAA Tournament appearance this past spring, Bouyea becomes the first Don to sign a professional contract since Frankie Ferrari and Nate Renfro in 2019.
Returning to the Hilltop for a fifth season this past year, Bouyea guided the Dons to a 24-10 overall record and their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1997-98. At the conclusion of the season, he was named First Team All-WCC for the second year in a row while also being selected to the 2022 NABC District 9 First Team. Notably, Bouyea was also honored by being selected as a finalist for the Lou Henson Award.
In 2021-22, the Seaside native shined throughout the season as the two-time WCC Player of the Week finished in the top five in the conference in total minutes (1,230, first), minutes per game (36.2, first), total field goals (219, second), steals (62, second), total points (587, third), points per game (17.3, third), three-point field goals made (72, fifth) and assists (135, fifth). Giving it his all no matter the matchup, the versatile guard also finished in the top ten in total blocks (29, sixth), defensive rebounds (153, eighth) and free throws made (77, ninth).
Specifically, Bouyea also guided USF to a road win over No. 4 Virginia on Nov. 27, 2020 by pouring in 19 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals in 35 minutes played. With this victory, the Dons defeated a top five ranked opponent for the first time since defeating No. 2 Wichita State on Dec. 29, 1981. One year later, Bouyea shined once more when he tied the program record for three-pointers made in a single game by knocking down 8-of-10 from distance in USF's win over UNLV on Dec. 4, 2021. Closing out his time on the Hilltop with a show, Bouyea saved his best for last as the 6'2" guard tallied a career-high 36 points in USF's first round game against Murray State in the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Mar. 17, 2022.
After his five years in the green and gold, Bouyea leaves USF as one of the most accomplished athletes in program history as he is now the program's all-time wins leader (98 wins) alongside being first all-time in games played (160). Overall, he also ranks in the top six in program history in steals (208, third), assists (422, third), three-pointers attempted (531, fourth), field goals made (657, fifth), total points (1,718, fifth) and three-pointers made (179, sixth).
