Marissa Vasquez Named WCC Offensive Player of the Week

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced this afternoon that USF sophomore forward Marissa Vasquez was named the WCC's Offensive Player of the Week following her stellar opening week performance in the Pacific Northwest.

Vasquez opened up her 2022 season with a hat trick against Portland State as she scored three goals in USF's season opening win at Portland State on Thursday night. Not to be outdone, she was able to angle a corner kick perfectly to the back of the net for the Dons' lone goal in a 1-1 tie at Oregon on Sunday afternoon.

"I'm excited and happy for Marissa to win this award from the WCC," USF head coach Jim Millinder said. "She is an outstanding player and just makes our team better."

Following the first week of conference play, Vasquez is the conference leader with four goals so far through the first week of conference action. She's also ready matched her total from last season when she named to the All-WCC Team.

Also nominated: Leyla McFarland, Pepperdine; Bella Folina, BYU; Aubrey Turner, Portland; Janae Packard, Pacific; Tessa Salvestrin, Saint Mary's
