SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference officially announced on Monday afternoon that junior
Marissa Vasquez has been named the WCC Offensive Player of the Week following her two-goal performance in USF's 2-0 shutout over Saint Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 30.
Â
Breaking out in a big way this week,
Marissa Vasquez recorded her third career brace in San Francisco's 2-0 shutout of Saint Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 30. Beginning the scoring in the 19th minute, Vasquez passed to
Ellie Weissenberg off a corner kick before Weissenberg delivered it back to Vasquez, who then used the perfect touch with her right foot to put it past the Saint Mary's keeper and give the Dons a 1-0 lead.Â
Â
As the first half came to a close, the junior netted her second goal of the night on an assist from
Kaitlyn Sasaduesz as Vasquez danced through the opposing defense before burying the strike to double up the Gaels, 2-0, through the first 45 minutes of play. After defending their home field in the second half, San Francisco secured the shutout to tallied their fourth clean sheet of the year and move to 1-0 in West Coast Conference play.
Â
Overall, this marks the first Player of the Week award for San Francisco this season and the first for the Dons since
Kaylin Lunsford was awarded the honor on Sept. 12, 2022.
