SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Following two shutouts this past week,
Kira Ybarra has been selected as the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week beginning on Oct. 16.
Â
Improving in every match this fall, Ybarra came up huge for San Francisco this week as the Dons recorded back-to-back victories to remain in the hunt for the postseason. Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 18, Ybarra helped the green and gold record just their second victory all-time on the road in Santa Clara as USF shutout the 13th-ranked Broncos, 1-0, for the second time this season. In the match, the junior tied her season-high with 8 saves as she picked up her fifth clean sheet of the year in the win. Just a few days later, Ybarra kept it rolling at home on the Hilltop by notching two more saves in a 3-0 shutout of San Diego on Saturday, Oct. 21.Â
Â
With another shutout, she is now up to six clean sheets this season. Overall, Ybarra recorded 10 saves with no goals allowed across 180 minutes played this week. Additionally, she is also second in the WCC in saves (62), saves per game (4.43) and shutouts per game (.429) in 14 matches so far this year.
Â
Overall, this marks the second Player of the Week Award for San Francisco this season after
