San Francisco Closes Out Arizona Tip-Off Against DePaul

GLENDALE, Ariz. - Wrapping up their weekend in the Valley of the Sun, the University of San Francisco men's basketball team (2-2) is set for a matinee matchup against DePaul (1-3) on Sunday afternoon in the third-place game of the inaugural Arizona Tip-Off tournament.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • In their last time on the hardwood, San Francisco battled Grand Canyon from wire-to-wire in their third meeting in four years, but the Lopes ultimately outlasted the Dons, 76-72, on Friday, Nov. 17 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale. Despite the loss, Marcus Williams finished with a season-high 20 points while Mike Sharavjamts tallied a new career-high with 16 points.
  • As a team, the green and gold are in the top 50 in the NCAA in assists per game (21st/19.5), three-point percentage defense (24th, 23.8), effective field goal percentage (26th/.596), field goal percentage (29th, 52.4), scoring margin (33rd, 23.0) and turnovers forced per game (39th, 17.25).
  • Through four games, three Dons rank in the top 20 in the conference in scoring: Jonathan Mogbo (15.0 ppg), Williams (13.0 ppg) and Sharavjamts (11.8 ppg). Notably, Mogbo is also sixth in the WCC in rebounding so far with an average of 7.3 boards per contest. 
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEMONS:
  • Playing right after San Francisco and GCU, DePaul fell to South Carolina, 73-68, at Desert Diamond Arena on Friday in the late-night game of the opening round of the Arizona Tip-Off tournament. As the only Blue Demon in double figures, Chico Carter Jr. Paced the offense for DePaul with 24 points, six rebounds and two assists in a game-high 37 minutes played.
  • With a multitude of options offensively like the Dons, five players are currently averaging double figures for the Blue Demons: Carter Jr. (14.5 ppg), Jeremiah Oden (12.3 ppg), Elijah Fisher (10.8 ppg), Caleb Murphy (10.0 ppg) and K.T. Raimey (10.0 ppg).
  • As a unit, DePaul also gets after it on the defensive end as the Blue Demons currently rank 26th in the country in blocks per game (6.0). 
SERIES HISTORY:
Sunday's matchup between the Dons and the Blue Demons will mark the sixth meeting all-time between the two programs as San Francisco currently holds a 4-1 lead in the all-time series.
