DONS AT A GLANCE:
- Last time out, USF hung on to defeat Pacific in Stockton, 76-68, as the Dons swept the season series to extend their winning streak to three straight against the Tigers. Showing out once again, Khalil Shabazz (26 points) and Tyrell Roberts (25 points) combined for 51 of USF's 76 points as the duo knocked down six shots from behind-the-arc in the win.
- Overall, Shabazz currently sits sixth in the West Coast Conference with an average of 16.7 points per game while Roberts is right behind in seventh with an average of 16.2 points per game. Within WCC play, Shabazz is fifth in the league with an average of 18.8 points per game. Additionally, Shabazz is 10th in the conference with 87 total assists and 13th with a total of 161 rebounds.
- Historically, Shabazz currently ranks seventh all-time in program history with 1,682 total points throughout his career on the Hilltop. Impressively, the Seattle native also ranks third in steals (226), fourth in career free throw percentage (.819) and 10th in games played (122) as of Wednesday night.
- Climbing with each victory, USF currently sits fifth in the WCC standings heading into the final week of regular season play. Depending on the outcomes of various games this week, the Dons have the opportunity to rise to fourth place in the conference standings.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS:
- In their last time on the hardwood, Portland fell at home to Santa Clara, 103-84, on Saturday, Feb. 18. Despite the loss, Mike Meadows poured in a career-high 39 points while Tyler Robertson added 16 points for the Pilots.
- Dangerous with the ball in his hands, Robertson currently ranks 18th nationally in total assists (149), 20th in free throws made (133) and is one of just 23 players at the Division I level with a triple-double this season. Additionally, he currently leads the WCC in assists per game (5.3) and free throws made.
- As a team, Portland is consistent from the charity stripe as the Pilots led the conference and rank 10th nationally in free throws made per game (17.2) and 11th in free throws attempted per game (23.4).Â
SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
- Last week, BYU fell on the road at Saint Mary's, 71-65, in a hard-fought battle in Moraga. As a team, the Cougars shot 47.4 percent from distance (9-19), but were unable to overcome a 13-point second half deficit.
- Hard to contain down low, Fousseyni Traore enters the week ranked in the top five in the WCC in offensive rebounds (78, second), total rebounds (227, third), defensive rebounds (149, fourth) and rebounds per game (7.8, fourth).
- As a team, BYU currently sits second in the conference in rebounds per game (37.7) and fourth assists per game (14.7). Defensively, The Cougars also bother their opponents as they lead the WCC in steals per game (7.8) and are second in blocks per game (3.9). Â
