THINGS TO KNOW:
  • USF heads into the month of May feeling good after a pair of key home victories over the weekend over the Gaels as they won their second conference series, and the first on their home diamond.
  • Pacing the way for the program's power bats this season has been a three-headed offensive monster as Christian Stapleton, Will Asby and Williams III all enter the final stretch of the season with seven home runs each this year.
  • Continuing his strong season competing in a variety of roles, Weston Lombard threw two scoreless innings to help his team pick up the win on Sunday as he lowered his ERA for the season to 3.55 while throwing 33 innings on the season.
  • The Dons continue to pace the entire West Coast Conference in the stolen base leaderboard as they've swiped 67 bags this season with an impressive 78% success rate. Williams III continues to pace the USF base running efforts by stealing 21 bases this season.
SCOUTING THE WOLF PACK:
  • Nevada has had a down season overall in 2023 as they've posted a 17-25 mark on the season to go along with a 7-13 conference record in the Mountain West. In their first game this season against the Dons on the Hilltop, the Wolf Pack was able to come away with the 5-3 victory in March.
  • Leading the way for Nevada's offense this season has been the strong play from outfielder Henry Strmecki who leads the team with a .311 batting average to go along with eight home runs and 28 RBI. In the first meeting in San Francisco, Strmecki went 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks against the Dons.
  • On the mound, a key arm out of the Wolf Pack bullpen has been right-hander Morgan White who has appeared in 18 games this season while posting a 3.73 ERA with opposing hitters only managing a .184 batting average against this season.
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
  • Santa Clara has been able to piece together a strong overall season with a record of 23-15 on the season while posting a 10-8 mark in conference action. Over the weekend, the Broncos earned an impressive three game road sweep over Pepperdine to climb higher in the conference standings.
  • Excelling at the plate throughout the season for the Broncos has been infielder Efrain Manzo who has brought the power bat for his team all season with a .320 batting average and ranking second in the WCC with 13 home runs to go along with 36 RBI to pace his tremendous year at the plate.
  • An arm to keep an eye on for Santa Clara this weekend is right-hander Cole Kitchen who has made 11 starts for the Broncos this season with a 3-1 record, 4.02 ERA in 56 innings pitched.
