THINGS TO KNOW:
- With just one more week of games left on the slate for the Dons, USF is looking to end their 2023 season with some strong momentum heading into 2024 as the program continues its upward trajectory. Last season, the Dons were able to sweep UC Davis in the pair of non-conference games they faced them while also taking two of three on the road from the Pilots a year ago.
- Looking to end his season on a high note after a strong campaign, Harris Williams III has been tremendous at the top of the batting order to the tune of a .343 batting average to go along with a .418 on-base percentage to rank second on the roster. The team's leading hitter this season has been Mario DeMera who currently ranks fifth in the WCC with a .357 batting average and is tied for third on the team in doubles with 12 so far this season.
- On the mound, the Dons are looking for a pair of strong starts out of the top of their rotation to end the season as both Jesse Barron and Adam Shew have put together good outings as the duo have both posted ERA's south of five to lead the Dons' staff.
- In last week's home game against San José State, Zach Griffin and JT Amaral each provided strong contributions to their team as each drove in a run making the week day start against the Spartans.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES:
- UC Davis enters this week's game with a 17-30 overall record to go along with a 7-17 mark in the Big West as they made the trip to Honolulu over the weekend as they were swept by the Rainbow Warriors.
- Leading the way at the plate for the Aggies has been junior infielder Alex Gouviea with a .318 batting average with three home runs and 26 RBI as he's played and started in all 47 of his team's games this season.
- A key reliever out of the UC Davis bullpen has been junior right-hander Danny Carrion who has been excellent in his 17 appearances compiling a 1.71 ERA as he's struck out 28 batters with opponents hitting .215 against him this season.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS:
- Portland has had a strong season overall posting a 26-20 record to go along with a 15-9 mark in the WCC as they're currently three games of first place LMU with only three conference games remaining for the league.
- Leading the way for a strong Pilots bullpen this season has been their closer redshirt sophomore Jacob Dobmeier who leads the WCC with eight saves on the season to go along with a 4.33 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings of work this year.
- A potent offense with six everyday players posting batting averages that are .300 or better, graduate student catcher Nich Klemp has been a monster at the plate with a .379 batting average that's good for third in the WCC as he has five home runs and a team-high 38 RBI so far this season.
