SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference officially announced their annual preseason coaches poll and All-WCC Preseason Team for the upcoming 2023 women's soccer season on Tuesday afternoon.
For San Francisco,
Marissa Vasquez was named to the prestigious team for the second straight year while teammate
Lindsey Chau joins her on the list after a standout freshman season on the Hilltop.
In 2022, Vasquez picked up All-WCC postseason honors for the second time as she led the Dons with seven goals and 14 total points on the year. Notably, she tallied her first collegiate hat trick on the road at Portland State on Aug. 18, 2022. Within the conference, Vasquez was tied for fourth with 29 shots on goal while also tying for seventh in goals and eleventh in total points.
Making an immediate impact upon her arrival, Chau impressed from the start as the Southern California native earned All-WCC Freshman Team honors and All-WCC Honorable Mention honors following her first campaign in the green and gold. Notabnly, Chau led the Dons with four assists on the year while also tying for second on the team with four goals.
As a duo, both Vasquez and Chau started and played in all 19 matches for San Francisco in 2022. Additionally, the duo combined for 11 of the team's 27 goals last fall. Overall, Vasquez was second on the team with 1,504 minutes logged while Chau was sixth with 1,229 minutes on the pitch.
San Francisco is set to begin their 2023 season this Thursday, Aug. 17 when they welcome Oregon State to Negoesco Stadium.
