MBB WCC Preseason Poll 2024-25

Men's Basketball

San Francisco Picked Fourth, Marcus Williams Named to All-WCC Preseason Team

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - With the college basketball season less than one month away, the West Coast Conference officially announced the 2024-25 WCC Men's Basketball Preseason Poll and Preseason All-WCC Team on Thursday morning.

For San Francisco, the Dons are picked to finish fourth as a team while Marcus Williams, who was an All-WCC First Team selection in 2023-24, was named to the Preseason All-WCC Team. Notably, San Francisco was one of three teams to receive a first place vote in this year's poll.

Fresh off their second postseason appearance in the last three seasons, head coach Chris Gerlufsen and the Dons are hungry to build off the momentum the program has built as the green and gold have recorded 20+ wins each year since 2016-17 (excluding the COVID-19 shortened season in 2020-21). In addition to their NIT appearance, San Francisco also reached the semifinal round of the West Coast Conference tournament for the third straight season in 2023-24.

Overall, seven student-athletes from last year's team are returning for the green and gold, including All-WCC selections Marcus Williams (First Team), Ryan Beasley (Freshman of the Year, All-Freshman Team), Malik Thomas (Honorable Mention) and Ndewedo Newbury (Honorable Mention). New to the roster this offseason, transfers Carlton Linguard Jr. (UTSA), Jason Rivera-Torres (Vanderbilt), Isa Silva (Stanford/Long Beach State) and Drew Ardouin (Cuesta College) aim to make an immediate impact alongside freshmen Veniamin Abosi (Heraklion, Greece), Karl Markus Poom (Tartu, Estonia), James O'Donnell (Sydney, Australia) and Tyrone Riley IV (Watts, Calif.).

Additionally, the Dons will be featured on a national television network seven times this season, which includes four games on CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) and three games on ESPN networks. Notably, the green and gold will first appear on CBSSN when San Francisco battles Clemson in game one of the Sunshine Slam on Nov. 25. Additionally, both contests against Gonzaga will air on ESPN, including the regular season conference finale between the Dons and Bulldogs at Chase Center on Mar. 1.
