SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. –
Elle Papahronis, leading the University of San Francisco women's basketball team in scoring in two games last week, has been named Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week, announced by the league Monday morning.
In games against Portland State and San Diego State, Papahronis averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and two assists on 40 percent shooting off the bench. Papahronis reached double figures for the first time in her second career game, with 12 points on 50 percent (three-for-six) shooting from the field in the win over Portland State on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Defensively, she added three rebounds and her first-career steal.
She followed with another double-digit scoring performance at San Diego State on Saturday, Nov. 16, finishing with a team-high 15 points in 33 minutes of action. Getting to the free-throw line at will against the Aztecs, Papahronis connected on a career-high nine of her 12 attempts from the charity stripe.
Papahronis remained active on the glass against the Aztecs, corralling four rebounds, including two offensive boards.
For San Francisco, the honor marks the first weekly award for the team this season.
