SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Guiding San Francisco to a 2-0 start to West Coast Conference (WCC) play,
Malik Thomas has been named WCC Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league announced on Tuesday.
Â
Continuing to make a case for WCC Player of the Year, the do-it-all guard finished the week with averages of 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game.Â
Â
Beginning on Saturday, Dec. 28, the Fontana native tallied 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in San Francisco's 70-55 win over LMU.
Â
Following this performance with another spectacular effort, Thomas finished one point shy of his career-high in USF's 97-94 overtime win over Santa Clara on Monday, Dec. 30. Overall, the guard totaled 34 points, eight rebounds (career-high), three assists and two steals while playing a career-high 41 minutes in the win over the Broncos.Â
Â
Overall, Thomas shot 16-of-17 (94.1) from the free throw line across the two games while also shooting 39.5 percent (15-38) from the field and 43.8 percent (7-16) from beyond-the-arc.
Â
Through one week of conference play, Thomas sits just behind Pepperdine's
Stefan Todorovic as his 19.3 points per game is good for second in the WCC. Defensively, he is also second in the league in steals with an average of 2.1 per contest.
Â
For San Francisco, this honor marks the fourth weekly award this season.
