DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Last week, San Francisco went 2-2 over a four-game home stretch from Friday, Feb. 23 – Monday, Feb. 26, in a three-game series against Nevada and a single game against Seattle U.
  • Starting the season strong, Michael Campagna accounted for all three Dons home runs in last week's four-game stretch, including two homers in back-to-back innings in the 13-1 victory against Seattle U. In the WCC, Campagna is tied for the fourth-most home runs for an individual player so far in the early season.
  • Totaling five hits in nine at-bats in the series against Nevada, AJ Guiliana has amassed a .368 batting average across seven contests this season, with his five doubles being tied for the most in the conference.
  • On the mound, Andrew Hazell picked up his second win of the season in the series-closer against the Wolf Pack, recording six strikeouts and allowing just two hits in five innings pitched in the 7-2 victory.
  • Gabriel Barrett earned his first win of the year over the Redhawks, as the 2023 WCC All-Freshman team honoree did not give up a single hit in four innings pitched, recording two strikeouts.
  • Defense has shined for the Dons in the young season, as USF has allowed the third-fewest hits (65) and the second-fewest runs (34) in the conference, along with having the 25th-best fielding percentage in the nation at .990. Additionally, San Francisco holds the lowest ERA in the WCC at 4.00.
SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS:
  • CSU Bakersfield will make its home debut against the Dons seeking its first victory of the season, as the Roadrunners have dropped all eight of their contests to open the season. The Roadrunners opened their 2024 season at the College Baseball Classic from Feb. 16–19, falling to Minnesota, then-No. 7 Oregon State, and New Mexico twice, before most recently competing in the Tony Gwynn Legacy from Feb. 22—25, losing to Missouri, LMU, San Diego State, and Utah.
  • Narrowly capturing their first victory of the season in a 6-5, 11-inning loss to Utah, junior Zavien Watson hit his first-career Division I home run in the seventh inning to begin a CSU Bakersfield comeback that fell short in extra innings.
  • Infielder Elijah Pelayo has been a light for the Roadrunners, leading his team with a .385 batting average and having recorded a team-high 10 hits this season.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • San Francisco and CSU Bakersfield have faced off 11 times since 2009, with the Dons holding an 8-3 record against the Roadrunners in that stretch. The two programs most recently faced off in a three-game series in 2020, with CSU Bakersfield winning two of the three-games in the series.
