SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Following the conclusion of the 2024 season, San Francisco's
Joe Soberon was named to the West Coast Conference All-Conference Second Team, while
Myles Kallinger attained a place on the All-Freshman Team, announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Earning All-WCC honors in his first season on the Hilltop after spending time at UC San Diego, Soberon had a career season, leading the Dons' pitching staff in multiple statistical categories. Dominating his opponents throughout the season, Soberon allowed three or fewer earned runs in 12 of his 14 starts, highlighted by a five-inning shutout in a 10-1 victory over Pacific on April 28. His career-best 3.20 earned-run average ranked fourth in the WCC while accumulating the eighth-most strikeouts in the league, totaling 67 in 78.2 innings pitched.
Garnering Rawlings WCC Pitcher of the Week once during the season, Soberon earned the recognition after posting a solid seven-inning outing in a 16-1 triumph over Saint Peter's on March 10, allowing one run on four hits and tallying a season-high nine strikeouts.
Soberon, continuing his success during conference play, shut down the league's top offenses, holding San Diego, Portland, and Saint Mary's to a combined six runs in 18.1 innings with 19 strikeouts. In the narrow 2-1 loss to San Diego on May 10, Soberon opened the series at Benedetti Diamond with a stellar seven-inning performance, allowing just one run on six hits while fanning seven batters.
Notably, Soberon becomes the first pitcher to make an All-WCC team since Landon Bourassa received Second Team honors following the 2021 season.
Becoming a regular starter midway through the campaign, Kallinger shined as he finished his first collegiate season with a .278 batting average. In just 27 games and 19 starts, the first-year outfielder recorded 20 hits in 72 at-bats with two doubles and six RBI.
Kallinger totaled six multi-hit games, highlighted by a two-for-five performance at the plate with a season-high three RBI in a win over Pacific on April 28. The standout freshman also recorded a six-game hitting streak from April 13 – 21, batting .389 (seven-for-18) with three runs scored during the stretch.
Kallinger making the WCC All-Freshman Team marks the fourth-straight season where the Dons have had an individual make the prestigious list.
