Aggies Edge Dons in First Midweek Contest

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (3-1) suffered its first loss of the season, falling to UC Davis (1-3), 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at Benedetti Diamond.
 
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:

  • San Francisco put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning, taking the lead on a TJ Rogers RBI single that plated Jayden Garrison. Garrison reached on an infield single in the first at-bat of the game and later scored from third base following a wild pitch and an error.
  • UC Davis scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take its first lead of the afternoon. The Aggies held onto the lead throughout the final four innings as the Dons failed to tie the game.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Seven pitchers made an appearance throughout the contest, with Thomas Gonzales earning his first-career start. In two scoreless innings, Gonzales allowed just two walks and struck out three batters.
  • Cal Amborn, Alan Gonzalez, Braden Wellen, Hunter Holzemer, and Nick Bacura also pitched scoreless innings, with Bacura finishing the final 1.1 frames and recording two strikeouts.
  • San Francisco pitchers limited UC Davis to just one-for-nine (.111) with runners in scoring position.
  • At the plate, Rogers recorded the Dons' lone RBI while going one-for-four at the plate.

San Francisco hits the road when it takes on San Jose State for two games on Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21, at Excite Ballpark.
