SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (19-28, 3-15 WCC) begins its final homestand of the season when it hosts San Jose State (19-27) at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7 and San Diego (33-13, 17-4 WCC) in a three-game series on Friday, May 10 – Sunday, May 12, at Benedetti Diamond.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters its final homestand after finishing a three-game series at Portland on Thursday, May 2 – Friday, May 3, at Joe Etzel Field.
- Michael Campagna led the Dons throughout the three-game set against the Pilots, batting .364 while recording his team-leading eighth home run of the season on Thursday.
- Matty Fung continued his hot hitting, picking up three hits throughout the series while posting two RBI in the doubleheader last Friday. In his previous five games, Fung has recorded a .375 batting average with four doubles and 10 RBI, the most in a five-game span by any player this season.
- On the mound, Joe Soberon continues to pace the Dons as the team's top starting pitcher. Soberon leads the team with a 3.37 earned-run average after putting together a stellar performance against Portland, allowing two runs on two hits in 5.2 innings.
- As a team, San Francisco ranks eighth in the WCC with a batting average of .241 and is third in the league in pitching with a 4.66 earned-run average. The Dons' pitching staff has allowed the second-least amount of hits this season, giving up just 389, while ranking second in opponent batting average at .258.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS:
- San Jose State has dropped three of its last four games entering Tuesday's contest on the Hilltop, including losing a series at Air Force Friday, May 3 – Sunday, May 5.
- The Spartans, ranked fifth in the Mountain West Conference standings with a 14-13 league record, have won three of its past five league series, highlighted by a three-game sweep over Fresno State on Friday, Apr. 19 – Sunday, Apr. 21.
- Hunter Dorraugh has established himself as the Spartan's best offensive weapon, batting .351 with 52 hits in 148 at-bats. Dorraugh has also accumulated 33 RBI, 13 home runs, and a team-best .669 slugging percentage.
- Robert Hamchuk and Dalton Bowling have also propelled the team offensively, with Hamchuk leading the team in hits (59), while Bowling has posted a team-high 13 doubles.
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
- San Diego, the West Coast Conference's top team, has surpassed the 30-win threshold for the 10th time in the last 15 seasons after sweeping Santa Clara last weekend. Before their three-game set on the Hilltop, the Toreros host UC San Diego on Tuesday, May 7, at Fowler Park.
- The Toreros are on a nine-game winning streak in WCC play, not dropping a conference contest since Sunday, Apr. 14 at Portland. During their stretch of success on the diamond in league play, the Toreros have swept past Pepperdine, Gonzaga, and. Santa Clara.
- Jakob Christian, in his first season with the team, is one of two players in the WCC with 20 or more home runs after hitting his 20th of the season in a 14-4 win over Santa Clara last Sunday, May 5. Ranking high on the team in multiple statistical categories, Christian is second in batting average (.338), fourth in hits (53), and first in RBI (52).
- On the mound, Logan Reddermann and Josh Randall guide the Toreros as the team's top starting pitchers. Leading the team in starts, Randall has accumulated a 3.93 earned-run average, while Reddermann is on top at 3.82. The duo has combined for just 50 earned runs in 116.1 innings pitched with 120 strikeouts.
- Overall, San Diego rank second in the WCC in batting average (.300) and first in earned-run average (4.20). The Toreros have six players batting over .300 while having six with an earned-run average under 4.00.
SERIES HISTORY:
- San Francisco holds a 24-19 advantage over San Jose State since the 2006 season, including defeating the Spartans twice in 2024. The last time the two teams competed on the Hilltop, the Dons came out victorious as TJ Rogers hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 11th inning in a 7-6 win on Wednesday, Mar. 13.
- In 55 meetings since 2006, San Diego has totaled 31 wins to hold a narrow advantage in the series. The last time the Dons and Toreros faced off in the Bay, the green and gold earned the series win, defeating the Toreros in the first two contests during the 2022 season.
