SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team and Head Coach
Rob DiToma have officially announced Jon Garvey as an assistant coach.
"It is with great pleasure that I can announce that we have added Jon to our staff," DiToma said. "He brings valuable experience as a long-time assistant and a top-notch recruiter. He has great experience running all aspects of an NCAA baseball program, and we will benefit greatly from that experience."
Garvey comes to the Hilltop after serving as head coach at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, N.Y., compiling a 101-93 overall record in five seasons. Garvey garnered early success at the helm, leading STAC to an East Coast Conference (ECC) regular season title and an appearance in the NCAA Division II East Regional in 2021. The Spartans compiled a 26-7 overall record throughout the campaign for the team's highest winning percentage in program history. The team also added 17 league victories, the most the Spartans have posted since 2018.
Before taking over as head coach prior to the 2020 season, Garvey served as the associate head coach at STAC for 10 seasons. As the second in command, he helped guide the Spartans to five regular-season titles, four ECC Championship titles, six NCAA Tournament appearances, and two NCAA National Championship appearances.
Notably, 30 players under Garvey's tutelage at STAC have gone on to play professionally, with Gio Dingcong and Joseph Pena being selected by the Oakland Athletics in the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft in 2018.
As an assistant coach at San Francisco, Garvey will work with the catchers and the offense and be an integral part of the recruiting efforts and day-to-day operations of the program.
