DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Last week, San Francisco trekked south to UC Irvine for their first road game of the season as the green and gold escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Anteaters last Thursday. Kaitlyn Sasadeusz was the shining star for San Francisco in the win, accounting for both of USF's goals to notch her first career brace, just one week after scoring her first career goal.
  • In the conference, Sasadeusz leads the WCC in game-winning goals (2), ranks third in the conference in total points (6) and sixth in the league in goals per game (0.6) through five games played.
  • In the cage, Kira Ybarra ranks in the top five among WCC goalkeepers in shutouts per game (third, .400) and saves per game (fourth, 4.40).
  • As a squad, the green and gold hold the second-best overall record in the West Coast Conference (3-2), sitting just behind Santa Clara (5-1) in the standings.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS:
  • Coming off an at-large bid in the 2023 NCAA tournament, the Trojans have continued their recent success, starting off the 2024 season undefeated through their first four matches.
  • Following a 2-2 tie in the first contest of the season against New Mexico State, USC has strung together three consecutive victories, having played all its games on the road, most recently taking down WCC foe Portland in a 2-1 win last Saturday.
  • Leading the charge for Southern California, Texas A&M transfer Maile Hayes leads the Trojans with three goals on the season, along with seven points, good to be tied for seventh in the Big Ten.
  • Making their debut in the Big Ten, the Trojans have each of their first nine games of the 2024 slate on the road, not scheduled to make their home debut until their fourth game of conference play on Thursday, Sep. 26 against Minnesota.
  • Last season, in its final year as members of the Pac-12 Conference, USC made the NCAA tournament for the tenth season in a row, reaching the second round. Forward Maribel Flores took home 2023 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year honors, and the Trojans have five All Pac-12 honorees from last year's squad returning for the 2024 campaign, in 2023 All Pac-12 Second Team members Simone Jackson, Kayla Colbert, and Helena Sampaio, and 2023 All Pac-12 Third Teamers in Flores and Brooklyn Courtnall.
SERIES HISTORY:
Thursday's match between San Francisco and Southern California will mark the first meeting between the two squads in over five years as USC took down USF, 2-0, in their last matchup on Aug. 24, 2019.
