DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Continuing its success at War Memorial, San Francisco improved to 4-0 at home this season with an 84-64 win over Northwestern State on Tuesday night. Four Dons scored in double figures, led by Mookie Cook, who scored 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 shooting from deep in his first collegiate start.
  • It was an all-around effort for USF on Tuesday night as 11 Dons played and all 11 Dons scored in the victory over the Demons. The green and gold dished out a season-best 21 assists on 25 made field goals, with 12 made shots from three-point land, also a season-high. Taking care of the ball, San Francisco only turned the ball over eight times, a new season-low.
  • USF's reserves scored 43 points against NWU, as the green and gold bench continues to be one of the most effective in the nation, currently ranking 11th in Division I in bench points per game (41.6).
  • Enjoying success in his first few games as a Don, Cook is one of only four players in the WCC currently shooting over 60.0 percent from the floor. The junior forward is shooting 60.5 percent (26-for-43) from the field this season (fourth in WCC).
  • This weekend's contest in South Dakota will be the first of four neutral site games for USF this season, with the Dons having played 11 regular season neutral site contests under head coach Chris Gerlufsen (6-5).
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS:
  • In its first season under new head coach Niko Medved, Minnesota also comes into the contest with a 4-1 record, most recently taking down Chicago State on Tuesday night in a 66-54 win at home. Senior Cade Tyson led the way for the Golden Gophers, scoring 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
  • Medved joined Minnesota in the offseason after spending the last seven seasons at the helm of Colorado State, having led the Rams to three of the last four NCAA Tournaments. Before his stop at Colorado State, Medved spent four seasons at Furman (2013-17) and one year at Drake (2017-18). Furman was crowned Southern Conference (SoCon) regular season champions in his final year with the Paladins in 2016-17.
  • Three Golden Gophers are averaging double-figure scoring to start the year, led by Tyson's 23.4 points per game, 11th-most in the nation. Behind Tyson, junior forward Jaylen Crocker-Johnson is averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 12.0 rebounds per game, ranking fifth in rebounds per game across Division I.
  • This year, Minnesota looks to bounce back after a 15-17 (7-13 Big Ten) record last season, eying its first bid to the March Madness since 2019.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Saturday's game in South Dakota will mark the second all-time meeting between San Francisco and Minnesota, with the Dons previously capturing a 76-58 victory in the first-ever matchup on Nov. 26, 2023, at Chase Center. In that win over the Golden Gophers, Ryan Beasley logged 11 points, three assists, and a career-high five steals in 31 minutes off the bench.
