DONS AT A GLANCE:
- In its last time on the hardwood, San Francisco pushed its win streak to four straight games as the Dons outlasted a second half push from Minnesota to take down the Golden Gophers, 77-65, at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D on Saturday, Nov. 22. Despite missing Tuesday's game (Nov. 18), Ryan Beasley bounced back in a big way for the green and gold, finishing with a team-high 24 points on 8-of-13 from the field, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Beasley also added four assists and two rebounds in a team-high 37 minutes. Notably, Beasley's four made triples tied a career-high, while Mookie Cook set new career-highs with four made three pointers as well as four assists. San Francisco also limited Minnesota to 46 field goal attempts, the lowest by a USF opponent so far this season.
- The winner of Thursday's contest between San Francisco and Colorado (Game 11) will play the winner of Nevada and Washington (Game 12) on Friday, Nov. 28, at 1:30 pm on TruTV. The loser of Game 11 will also play the loser of Game 12, with that game scheduled for 11:00 am on TruTV.
- Thursday will mark the second of four neutral site games for USF in its nonconference slate this season. The Dons were successful in their first opportunity, taking down Minnesota, with two more opportunities to come this weekend. Looking ahead, San Francisco will travel to Tupelo, Miss., to battle Mississippi State at Cadence Bank Arena on Dec. 7.
- San Francisco and Colorado both have received strong contributions from their benches so far, with the Dons ranking 15th nationally in bench points per game (39.17) and the Buffaloes close behind, sitting at 24th nationally (38.00).
- USF has shot the ball well from distance through six games this season, as the green and gold come into the weekend ranked 17th nationally in three point percentage (41.18/63-153).
SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES:
- Colorado (CU) has enjoyed significant success so far this season, as the Buffaloes enter the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. Most recently, CU raced past UC Davis, 95-79, on Friday, Nov. 21, at home in Boulder. Five Buffaloes scored in double figures in the win: Bangot Dak (18), Felix Kossaras (17), Sebastian Rancik (15), Barrington Hargress (13), and Alon Michaeli (10).
- As of Wednesday night, Colorado continues to be one of the most efficient offenses in the nation so far, coming into the contest ranked in the top ten nationally in free throws made per game (24.6/6th), free throw attempts per game (32.4/6th), field goal percentage 53.4/8th), and three point percentage (42.2/10th). The Buffaloes also rank in the top 25 in scoring offense (94.4 points per game/13th), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.90/18th), and effective field goal percentage (59.4/21st).
- Individually, five student-athletes are averaging double figures coming into the game: Rancik (14.8), Isaiah Johnson (14.8), Michaeli (12.8), Hargress (12.2), and Dak (12.0).
- Thursday's matchup against San Francisco will mark the first contest away from home for Colorado this season, with the Buffaloes having played all five of their previous games at CU Events Center on campus. Colorado is scheduled to play just one true road game this season - Dec. 6th at Colorado State. After this weekend, the Buffaloes have one more neutral site matchup against Stanford on Dec. 20 as part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Series Phoenix in Phoenix, Ariz.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Thursday's matchup between San Francisco and Colorado will mark the sixth meeting all-time between the two programs, with USF holding a 3-2 advantage coming into the contest.
- The Buffaloes defeated the Dons, 72-55, in their most recent meeting on Dec. 3, 2014, in Boulder. However, USF is 1-0 against Colorado on a neutral court as San Francisco took down No. 15 Colorado, 62-50, in the NCAA Tournament National Semifinal at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo., on Mar. 18, 1955. In that victory, Bill Russell led the Dons in both points (24) and rebounds (9), propelling the green and gold to the NCAA National Championship Game. USF would go on to La Salle to claim its first of back-to-back national championships just one day later (Mar. 19, 1955).
