Baseball Prepares for Central Michigan in Four-Game Series

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco baseball team (2-2) begins the second week of the season at home when it hosts Central Michigan (1-3) in a four-game series from Friday, Feb. 21 – Sunday, Feb. 23 with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 22 starting with the first game at 10:00 a.m. and the second at approximately 2:00 p.m.

DONS AT A GLANCE:
  • Concluding the first series of the season with a split, San Francisco won two of the four games against Sacramento State, highlighted by an 8-5 victory in the home opener on Saturday, Feb. 15, followed by an impressive 15-7 win on the road on Sunday, Feb 16.
  • Heading into the second week of play, Kenny Decelle leads the team in multiple offensive categories, including batting average (.500), extra-base hits (four), hits (nine), and on-base percentage (.591). DeCelle excelled in the series' final game, going four-for-five at the plate, with a double, three RBI, and scored three runs.
  • Notably, DeCelle notched four doubles over the four-game stretch and five RBI while slugging .722% and scoring nine runs in his first series for the program.
  • Jordan Lewis performed well throughout the series, totaling a .471 batting average with eight hits in 17 at-bats. His .765 slugging percentage leads the team as he notched two doubles, a home run, and seven RBI in the first four games of the season.
  • Propelling the Dons offensively during the series, TJ Rogers posted a team-leading nine RBI in four games. His RBI total also ranks him tied for first in the WCC. Rogers also tallied his first home run since April 16, 2024, as he recorded a three-run blast in the 8-5 win over the Hornets on Saturday.
  • Joe Soberon earned his first win of the season in Saturday's home opener as he started on the mound for the Dons pitching a team-high of six innings. The graduate student from Concord, Calif., logged six strikeouts, most of any pitcher for the Dons in the series, and only allowed one walk.
  • As a team, six players found success with the long ball, as the green and gold recorded six throughout the four-game set. Zack Ramppen hit the Dons' first home run of the season on Friday, a solo shot, while Rogers, Lewis, Tyler Harries, Brendan Burke, and Charles-Etienne Pellieter cleared the outfield wall. Additionally, 15 players recorded at least one hit, while 13 logged an RBI.
SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS:
  • Central Michigan opened its season with a four-game series at Houston Christian, dropping three of the four games played. The Chippewas secured the season opener with a 6-0 victory on Friday, Feb. 14, but followed by being outscored 29-9 in the final three contests.
  • Throughout opening weekend, 11 players recorded at least one hit, with infielder Jake Kutella leading the team with five in 12 at-bats for a .417 batting average.
  • Spencer Verburg recorded five of the team's 12 RBI against Houston Christian while totaling three hits over eight at-bats, including a home run.
  • Evan Waters kickstarted Central Michigan's season on the mound, earning the start against Houston Christian on Friday, Feb. 14. Waters pitched six solid innings, earning his first win, logging four strikeouts and allowing only three hits.
SERIES HISTORY:
This four-game series between San Francisco and Central Michigan marks the first time the two teams will face off in program history.
