Keighran and Esquivel Earn WCC Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Leading the University of San Francisco baseball team to three wins in five games last week, including a series win over Central Michigan, Patrick Keighran was named Rawlings West Coast Conference Player of the Week while Eddison Esquivel earned Freshman of the Week honors, announced by the league Monday afternoon.

Keighran led San Francisco offensively last week, showing his plate discipline early in the final game of the four-game series against Sacramento State as he recorded three walks and one RBI. In four games against Central Michigan, Keighran led the program with a .545 batting average with six hits in 11 at-bats, five doubles, nine RBI, five walks, three hit-by-pitch, and scored five runs.

Recording his first multi-hit game of the series, he went three-for-four at the plate and drove in a season-best four runs in the narrow 13-11 decision in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 22. He added another four-RBI performance in the series finale on Sunday, Feb. 23, guiding the Dons to a 15-3 victory with two hits, two walks, and scored three times.

Esquivel appeared in three of the four games against Central Michigan last weekend, accumulating a .308 batting average on four hits in 13 at-bats, two doubles, two home runs, 10 RBI, and scored four runs. His .923 slugging percentage throughout the series ranked fourth highest as the Dons captured three of the four games against the Chippewas.

In the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 22, Esquivel recorded his first career home run and four RBI in the narrow loss. He followed the nightcap with a two-run double and scored a run to help guide the Dons to a 12-2 victory. In the series finale on Sunday, Feb. 23, Esquivel registered his first-ever grand slam as the Dons recorded 10 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning en route to a 12-run blowout win.

For San Francisco, these weekly awards mark the first two for the program this season.
