DONS AT A GLANCE:
- San Francisco enters the week in third place in the West Coast Conference standings after earning series wins over Santa Clara and Saint Mary's to open the conference slate.
- Last weekend, the Dons grabbed two games in the three-game set at home against the Gaels, highlighted by a 14-6 rout in the opener on Friday, Mar. 28. In a balanced offensive effort, nine players recorded base hits throughout the contest, while Kody Watanabe, TJ Rogers, Patrick Keighran, and Eddison Esquivel posted multi-hit performances.
- Five players recorded a .300 batting average or better during the series, including Matty Fung, leading at .714 with five hits in seven at-bats. Tyler Harries, Zack Ramppen, Trevor Harmon, and Rogers combined for 16 hits, seven extra-base hits, three home runs, and 15 RBI.
- Rogers shined in the 10-4 victory in the series final, recording a career-best six RBI while connecting on his first-career grand slam. His six-RBI game elevated him to the top of the team lead in RBI while ranking third in the WCC with 27.
- San Francisco continued its home run streak, extending it to five straight games after hitting four during the weekend series against Saint Mary's. Esquivel gained the team lead as he recorded his fifth long ball in the win over the Gaels on Saturday.
- San Francisco has established itself as a well-rounded team, ranking third in the WCC in batting average (.263) and second in earned-run average (5.31).
- On the mound, the Dons' pitching staff has allowed the third-fewest earned runs while totaling 175 strikeouts in 28 games. Lance Santerre, Joe Soberon, and Aidan Risse performed well against Saint Mary's, combining for 17.0 innings pitched, 10 strikeouts, and only three earned runs. In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, Risse earned the win as he pitched seven solid innings, allowing one run on five hits and recording five strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE MATADORS:
- CSUN comes to the Hilltop with a 6-17 overall record and is in 10th place in the Big West Conference standings at 3-9. CSUN is 4-6 in its last 10 games and has dropped two home league series to Hawaii and UC Irvine. The Matadors, however, picked up the series win at CSU Bakersfield on March 21 - 23, defeating the Roadrunners two games to one.
- Three players have accumulated a .300 batting average or better, with Andrew Baker leading the team at .342. In 21 games, Baker has totaled 26 hits in 76 at-bats, four doubles, one home run, and a team-leading 13 RBI. Kyle Panganiban has also been productive at the plate this season, batting .303, and leads the Matadors in hits (27) and doubles (five).
- Hayden Hall will earn the start on the mound for the Matadors on Wednesday, his first start this season. Hall has recorded a 12.86 earned-run average in nine appearances, allowing 10 runs in 7.0 innings. Giving up two or more runs in four of his nine times on the rubber, Hall allowed three runs on four hits in one inning against Oklahoma on March 1.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
- After a tough non-conference slate, Gonzaga has won five of its first six games to begin WCC play. The program has won back-to-back series, defeating Pepperdine and Pacific. Following a conference-opening loss at the Waves, the Bulldogs have rattled off five straight victories, including a sweep of the Tigers at home last weekend.
- Hudson Shupe leads all Bulldogs offensively, leading the team in batting average (.392), hits (40), triples (two), RBI (18), and slugging percentage (.520). In last weekend's series against Pacific, Shupe went six-for-13 with two triples, one home run, six RBI, and three runs scored.
- As a team, Gonzaga ranks third in the WCC in earned run average at 5.53 and has allowed the least amount of hits among the nine teams in the conference (195) in 216.1 innings pitched. Finbar O'Brien leads the Bulldogs with a 3.67 ERA, allowing 14 runs in 34.1 innings. He also leads the team in opponent batting average (.195) and first among qualified pitchers in hits allowed (24).
SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
- Competing in the Mountain West Conference for the 2025 season, Washington State enters the week with a 9-18 overall record and is 4-5 in league play. Before hosting San Francisco on Monday, Washington State takes on Gonzaga on the road and hosts San Jose State for a three-game MW series this weekend.
- Struggling as of late, Washington State has dropped four straight games, highlighted by a three-game sweep at Nevada on the road. The Cougars scored only five runs against the Wolf Pack while being outscored 28-5.
- Luke Thiele, Max Hartman, Logan Johnstone, and Ollie Obenour have accumulated batting averages over .300 while combining for 124 of the team's 253 hits this season. Theile, in his first season with the program, leads the Cougars with a .360 batting average.
- Obenour and Johnstone have provided the Cougars with power, leading the team with a combined 23 extra-base hits. Johnstone leads the team in home runs with five, while Obenour has totaled eight doubles.

- Gonzaga has held the edge over San Francisco since the 1985 season, accumulating a 49-48 record. The Bulldogs have been victorious against the Dons in recent history, winning seven straight, dating back to 2022. The last time the green and gold defeated the Zags was in a 14-11 shootout at Benedetti Diamond on April 9, 2022.
- San Francisco has won three straight contests against Washington State since 2006, outscoring the Cougars 28-11. The Dons have won twice at Bailey-Brayton Field, including a 14-8 victory on March 15, 2023.
